Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sri Lanka 233 and 411
New Zealand 307 and 0-0.
Match drawn
Sri Lanka won their first overseas Test series by holding New Zealand to a draw in the second Test at Dunedin, which ended yesterday.
Sri Lanka won the two-Test series by virtue of their victory in Napier last week, their first Test victory in 18 overseas tours since 1982.
New Zealand only had an outside chance of forcing a result when Sri Lanka resumed at 210 for 3 yesterday, but their hopes evaporated against the determined batting of Asanka Gurusinha and Hashan Tillekaratne.
The two left-handers, who had joined forces with their side in trouble on 81 for 3 the previous evening, were not separated until shortly before lunch when Tillekaratne went for 108, his second Test century. The pair put on 192 for the fourth wicket, a new Sri Lankan record, beating the previous best of 178 shared by Arjuna Ranatunga and Aravinda de Silva in Wellington four years ago. Gurusinha went on to reach 128, his sixth Test century.
