From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

COURTNEY WALSH, Gloucestershire's West Indian fast bowler, had the Championship leaders reeling at Southend yesterday as his spell of 4 for 46 in 16 overs helped bowl out Essex for 252.

By the close the visitors' lead of 104 had been extended by a further 43 runs without loss.

Another Caribbean Test maestro, Desmond Haynes, continued his extraordinary run at Uxbridge, with yet another century for Middlesex, against Northamptonshire.

Haynes, who has now hit four centuries in eight innings at Uxbridge (average 134.6), struck a six and 17 fours in an unbeaten 127 as Middlesex declared on 220 for 5 - 149 behind Northamptonshire.

At Southport, Lancashire are poised to claim their first Championship win in 10 games. Although they slumped to 280 all out, a lead of just 23 over Leicestershire, their spinners, Dexter Fitton and Alex Barnett, reduced the visitors to 141 for 7 in their second innings at the close.

On a rain-affected day at Sheffield, Craig White hit 54 not out - his fifth successive half-century - as Yorkshire declared on 301 for 6. In reply Warwickshire are 88 for 0.
