From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The South African Test all-rounder, making his debut for the Welsh county some five weeks behind schedule because of a stomach muscle injury, scored an imperious 155 not out as Glamorgan claimed a 71-run win over Surrey in the National League at Pontypridd yesterday.
Kallis's 155 was the highest individual score by any Glamorgan batsman in one-day league cricket - beating Matthew Maynard's 132 which came against Surrey in 1997 - and Glamorgan's 294 for 4 was their highest total in league cricket, passing their 287 for 8 against Middlesex in Cardiff six years ago. The third-wicket stand of 204 between Kallis and Maynard was the highest for any wicket by a Glamorgan pair in the competition.
Kallis batted for all but seven balls of the Glamorgan innings. The 23- year-old shared a second-wicket partnership of 66 in 12 overs with Robert Croft, whose enterprising 43 came off just 45 balls, and then found willing partner in Maynard, the Glamorgan captain.
After watching Kallis reach his 50 off 60 balls, Maynard passed his own half century from only 54 deliveries. Kallis reached his century off 112 deliveries, and his next 55 runs came from just 29 balls and included two sixes over long off in one Ian Salisbury over.
Maynard eventually fell to one moment of madness. He pushed Adam Hollioake to mid-wicket and called for the single but could not beat Ally Brown's direct throw. His 79 had come off 76 balls.
Owen Parkin took some early punishment when Surrey replied but still removed the top three in the order, and when Brown was bowled Surrey were in trouble.
Darren Bicknell offered some spirited resistance with a 50-ball half century, but as he ran out of partners he took one wild flash too many and was caught behind to leave Surrey all out for 223.
