Your support makes all the difference.WAQAR YOUNIS sparked the third Test back to life with two wickets in successive balls on a rain-shortened fourth day before Desmond Haynes and Carl Hooper snuffed out flickering Pakistani hopes of getting back into contention. The West Indies were 68 for 4, all to Waqar, before Haynes and Hooper carried the total to 153 for 4 at the close, a lead of 265 with only a day remaining.
With a deficit of 112 on the first innings, Pakistan's hopes of an improbable victory at the end of a disastrous series were seemingly condemned by heavy overnight and early morning rain which delayed play until three- quarters of an hour after lunch.
There was no hint of what was to follow as Haynes and Phil Simmons calmly added 36 from the first 12 overs against Wasim Akram and Ata- ur-Rehman. But when Waqar came on, the fifth ball of his first over, a typical inswinging yorker, sent Simmons's off-stump cartwheeling. The next ball found Richie Richardson on the back foot and lbw for a duck in his first Test in his native Antigua as the West Indies captain.
The left-handed Brian Lara just managed to deflect Waqar's hat-trick ball off the inside edge towards fine leg but, after adding 22 with Haynes he and his fellow left-hander were both leg before after tea in Waqar's sixth over. Lara, jumping on the back foot, Keith Arthurton playing down the wrong line and struck on the back foot.
Richardson's decision was given by Dickie Bird, but the English umpire had to leave the ground just before tea feeling the effects of a blow to his back the day before.
His place was taken by the standby official, Clancy Mack, an Antiguan who had never stood in a Test match. He was first called on to make a decision when Haynes was struck on the front pad pushing forward to Waqar, and gave the batsman the benefit of the doubt. But he later had no doubt over the leg-before decisions which dismissed Lara and Arthurton.
His fellow Antiguans were not so convinced. Without seeing the television replay which exonerated Mack, a former croupier in a local casino, they chanted 'Bring Back, Bring Back, Bring Back My Dickie To Me'.
