From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

SOUTH AFRICA duly completed a 259-run win in the third and final Test yesterday to level the series 1-1 after Pakistan started the final day in a hopeless position. Set 394 to win at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth, they began the day at 120 for 7 and after 35 balls and 14 runs their forlorn struggle was over.

Allan Donald took a wicket in each of his first two overs to finish with 4 for 27 runs before fellow quick bowler Fanie de Villiers, in his last Test match, bowled Shoaib Akhtar to wrap up, the match. Donald had match figures of 8 for 74, De Villiers 8 for 48.

Azhar Mahmood, who was named man of the series after scoring 327 runs, including two centuries, at an average of 65.40, was ninth out after making 41.

Mark Boucher, named man of the match, claimed his ninth victim of the match behind the wicket when Waqar Younis edged Donald's second ball of the day, equalling the South African record for a match.
