From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Australia 240-4 v South Africa

ALLAN DONALD, the South African fast bowler, angered the 20,000 crowd at the Adelaide Oval with a dismissive gesture after taking the wicket of the Australian opener, Michael Slater, in the third Test yesterday. The incident came 24 hours after the Australian Cricket Board announced it was launching an inquiry into bowlers 'unsportingly' being abusive to dismissed batsmen.

Donald despatched Slater for 53 as Australia made 240 for 4 by the close of the first day. Slater and Mark Taylor had put on 83 when Donald bounced a delivery at Slater who edged the ball to Jonty Rhodes. Donald spread out his arms tauntingly at Slater.
