Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Brown helped to restrict Derbyshire to 176 all out, getting rid of first- innings centurion Chris Adams for one, and it was down to Michael May, with 64, and wicketkeeper Karl Krikken, with an unbeaten 36, to provide the bulk of the visitors' runs.
Durham, bowled out for 174 chiefly by Phil DeFreitas, who took 5 for 37 in the morning, again struggled in their second innings and were 48 for 3 at the close.
Yorkshire's young openers Anthony McGrath, unbeaten on 39, and Michael Vaughan, with 29 not out, reached 74 without loss to launch a home fightback against Nothamptonshire at Headingley.
Northamptonshire, whose left-armer Paul Taylor, with 6 for 45, finished off Yorkshire for 166 in quick style, built up a first-innings lead of 120, with captain Rob Bailey, who hit 61, and Kevin Curran, 63, helping them to 286 all out.
