Mark Greatbatch and Shane Thomson have been left out of the New Zealand squad to play Pakistan in the one-off Test this week. Martin Crowe is injured, while the Auckland batsman Craig Spearman and the all-rounder Nathan Astle are in the Test squad for the first time.

The wicketkeeper Howard "Hopper" Levett, who played 142 matches for Kent between 1930 and 1947, has died at the age of 87. He took 283 catches, made 195 stumpings and played one Test for England in India in 1933-34.
