Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Pakistan cantered to 183 for 2 with 64 balls to spare after West Indies earlier collapsed to 181 all out, losing eight wickets for 25 runs in their last 10 overs.

WORLD SERIES (Sydney): West Indies 181 (47.3 overs; S Chanderpaul 72; Saqlain Mushtaq 4-17); Pakistan 183 for 2 (39.2 overs; Aamir Sohail 55). Pakistan won by eight wickets. Standings: 1 West Indies (P8, Pts10); 2 Pakistan (7-8); 3 Australia (7-4).

India yesterday made four changes in their squad for the triangular limited-overs series against South Africa and Zimbabwe later this month and altered travel plans to give their players a rest before a tour of the West Indies. The opener Woorkeri Raman, the middle-order batsman Pankaj Dharmani, the left-arm spinner Venkatapathy Raju and the medium-pacer David Johnson have been omitted from the one-day squad.
