Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Britain is likely to be strongly represented in Sunday's Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby) at Chantilly, whether or not Celtic Swing is supplemented to the race on Thursday.

British stables provided 10 of the 19 acceptors at yesterday's forfeit stage for a race British yards have won in the last six years with Old Vic and Sanglamore.

A forecast of softish going has encouraged John Dunlop, who will be represented by Feilden Stakes-fourth Indian Light. "I wouldn't be confident of beating Celtic Swing if he is entered but I hope Indian Light will give a good account," Dunlop said.

Richard Hannon relies on Lingfield Derby Trial fifth Commoner, with his other acceptor Stiffelio a probable absentee. Prix Lupin winner Flemensfirth is the more likely runner of John Gosden's pair as Presenting is regarded as a top-of-the-ground specialist. Godolphin Racing are likely to pay 250,000 francs to supplement Dante Stakes winner Classic Cliche.

Prix du Jockey Club acceptors: Madaiyn, Rifapour, Istidaad, Affidavit, Annus Mirabilis, Flemensfirth, In Camera, Stelvio, Winged Love, Salmon Ladder, Walk On Mix, Diamond Mix, Commoner, Stiffelio, Hard Brave, Presenting, Indian Light, Fifty Four, Poliglote.
