Matchroom Boxing have announced Matthew Macklin's fight with Jorge Sebastian Heiiland in Dublin on 30 August has been postponed until later in the year after Macklin's trainer Jamie Moore was shot in Marbella.

Moore (below, right), a retired British and European champion, is recovering in hospital under armed guard after the incident on the Costa del Sol, Spain, on Sunday night.

He was left requiring hip and leg surgery after being shot five times, including twice in the legs, as he left an acquaintance's house.

Macklin was set to face Heiiland at the National Stadium in a WBC middleweight title eliminator.

"I am disappointed to have to postpone my fight but in the light of the circumstances and the disruption to my preparation it is the right thing to do," said Macklin in an announcement on the Matchroom website.

"Every fight at this stage in my career is of huge importance and being 100 per cent for the night is vital.

"We will make an announcement shortly on a new date and I look forward to fighting in Dublin in 2014."

Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua was also set to fight on the bill - he will now fight Yaroslav Zavorotnyi at the Phones 4u Arena, Manchester, on 13 September.

Matchroom announced that all ticket holders will be refunded.

Moore was shot in Spain in an apparent case of mistaken identity. He took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce he was recovering.

"Thanks for all the well wishes. Overwhelmed. Gutted and confused about what happened, but thank God I'm OK.

"It's at times like this that you realise how well your thought of. I've had unbelievable support.
