It’s been set-up as the biggest boxing fight in history, but when Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao face-off in Las Vegas, just 132 pubs in the United Kingdom will be screening the match in the early hours of Sunday morning.
If you feel like making a bit of a night of it, you’re going to be somewhat limited with your options. With pubs and bars forced to apply for extended opening hours due to the ‘Fight of the Century’ getting underway at about 5am BST, a number have taken the decision not the screen the fight.
Using sports pub-finder website Matchpint, we found that only 132 venues will be broadcasting the two greatest boxers of our generation going toe-to-toe, and only 19 in London will be open for business.
However, that extended hours has not stopped sport bars Walkabout, Belushi’s and Rileys from opening the majority of their roster of venues across the country.
But if you’re reading this article and thinking that a trip to the local town centre on Saturday night sounds like a good idea, you’re probably too late. Most of the venues have reported tickets are sold out already, with most holding a ticket-only admission starting from £5.
One place who still have tickets remaining is the Jetlag Sports Bar in Fitzrovia, London, though anyone who wishes to go will have to part with a staggering £150 for the all-inclusive package they are putting on – although that does include food and drink.
One bar who have confirmed they won’t be showing the fight is the 19th Hole in Carnoustie, Scotland. The Courier reports that after fighting to gain an extended licence, they would be able to serve drinks up until 3.30am – before realising that the fight doesn’t start until near 5am. They have since cancelled the event and will close their doors as normal at 1am.
