From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

While promoting his May 2 “Fight of the Century,” Mayweather told Couric that his 2010 battery and harassment convictions involving Harris were actually the result of restraining “a women that was on drugs.”
“Did I kick, stomp and beat someone? No, that didn’t happen,” he said. “Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. So if they say that’s domestic violence, then, you know what? I’m guilty. I’m guilty of restraining someone.”
Harris, who has three children with Mayweather, filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles County on Tuesday, claiming defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
In her lawsuit, Harris denies being a drug abuser and her attorney said in the court filing: “It was not Mayweather's 'restraint' of Harris that caused her serious injuries, rather it was his beating of her.” She also said she was treated for deep cuts and bruises at a hospital after the boxer came into her home as she slept on a couch and began punching, kicking and dragging her about the house in front their son, Koraun Mayweather.
Mayweather brought home $100 million after his win Saturday against Manny Pacquiao, and is projected to make another $100 million after the final pay-per-view sales have been tallied.
