From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Eddie Hearn has confirmed that Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury is “on the verge” of being finalised.

Both fighters will discuss site offers tomorrow with the British world champions nearing a complete agreement over terms for the historic fight.

With 24 July tentatively set as the date, Matchroom promoter Hearn has now revealed progress has been made with a number of attractive offers on the table to host the event.

“It’s good to hear some positivity from the team, we’re close, both fighters will be presented with offers for this summer,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

“He talks when things are close, you can feel the excitement building. We’ve got several offers on the table.“I’m quietly confident. The teams will get together, I’ll see Bob Arum on Tuesday, we’re nearly there. I don’t want to get too excited, but we’ve worked really hard to get this done.

“He had a dream to become undisputed, and we’re in a good place, we’re nice and close. All I can tell you is I can’t do more than I’m doing, we’re on the verge now. It won’t be long.

“I don’t think it will take a lot of decisions, both fighters want to get moving. He’s virtually in camp already, it’s the biggest fight of all time, the biggest sporting fight this year. The build-up will be something you’ve never seen before. It doesn’t get any bigger than this. It will never get bigger than this in our generation. We’re n the verge, on the top of the hill, hopefully we can scream and shout in the future.

“It [London] will be presented, but financially it’s not at the races. Speaking to DCMS, can we get 100,000 on 24 July, the answer is ‘we hope so’. We’re in the middle of a global pandemic, it’s difficult to secure the logistics. It’s now, not at the end of the year. It happens this summer, we may not get this opportunity again. Never ideal to make a sporting event like this in the middle of a global pandemic.”
