British boxer Amir Khan will face heavily fancied Mexican Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in Las Vegas on Saturday night, to fight for the WBC middleweight world title.

Khan, 29, has garnered a lot of respect in taking the fight, moving up to weight classes to face one of the heaviest punching men in boxing, who has lost just one of his 48 fights and won 32 of them by knockout.

Khan, a former unified light-welterweight champion, however remains confident he can use his speed and skill to outmanoeuvre the 25-year-old.

"I'm going to hit Canelo and he's probably not going to feel it, but skill is going to win it," said Khan at a press conference ahead of the fight. "I don't want to be involved in exchanges, standing in front of him giving him free shots. I know he can hurt me with one big shot.

"So I have to make sure I'm balanced when I'm throwing my own shots. It's all about being disciplined and sticking to the game-plan for 12 rounds. Before, I've not respected guys who have knocked me down or out. This fight I know I can be hurt so I'll be on the edge and my defences will be sharper."

However, the bookies are not so confident about Khan's chances.

BetVictor has the Bolton-born fighter as an outside chance, with Alvarez an odds-on favourite.
