From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.George Foreman must give the German Axel Schulz a rematch or forfeit his heavyweight title. The fight must be held within 120 days, the International Boxing Federation's executive committee decided at the organization's convention in Atlanta yesterday. Foreman beat Schulz on a controversial decision 12 April, and has said he will not fight Schulz again. The IBF will give promoters for Foreman and Schulz 30 days to reach agreement. After that, they would be called to the IBF offices to bid for the right to promote the fight. The IBF lifted Schulz's ranking from No 9 contender to No 2.
Gianfranco Rosi, the World Boxing Organisation super- welterweight champion who faces a two-year ban for doping, has failed to have his second urine analysis postponed. The Italian, who tested positive for banned amphetamines after he beat the American Vernon Phillips on 17 May, asked the Italian Olympic committee to intervene but the Italian sports doctors federation said yesterday it would proceed with the second test as planned tomorrow.
