Mike Tyson yesterday declared he will not make the same mistake twice. Having lost his heavyweight championship to the underdog James "Buster" Douglas five years ago because of overconfidence, he vowed that it will not happen against Peter McNeeley.

Tyson fights the unknown McNeeley on 19 August in Las Vegas, which will be his first return to the ring after three years in prison on a rape conviction.

"I take him very seriously - I don't underestimate anybody," Tyson said. His management are already looking past McNeeley to the future, but not the former champion. "I'm not in the position to give anybody anything. I'm just looking for shots at people," he said. "I'm just happy that Mr McNeeley is giving me a shot."
