Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

London Towers' European crusade, which began at Wembley with victory over Milan two months ago, fizzled out into their fourth consecutive home defeat last night.

London's woeful home form, which has now cost them a place in the last 32, continued with a dismal certainty.

They scored just one basket in the first eight minutes, from Martin Gottfried, and missed eight out of 14 free throws to trail 32-23 at the interval.

London's key offensive threat, Danny Lewis, failed to score in the first 20 minutes and led his players back to the locker-room for yet another half time tongue-lashing from the coach, Kevin Cadle.

It made little difference as London were allowed only the briefest of revivals in the second period. Luka Pavicevic, the veteran former international, quelled London with three effortless three-pointers.

The Worthing Bears coach, Chris Jones, and their leading American player, Shawn Swords, both left the club yesterday before they were beaten 111- 80 at Birmingham Bullets last night in the quarter-finals of the National Cup.
