Wednesday Birth of Sammy McIlroy of Manchester United in 1954. Mike Tyson beat the IBF champion Tony Tucker to become the first universal world heavyweight champion since 1978.

Friday Juan Manual Fangio won the German Grand prix in 1957, to clinch his fifth and final world title. Women played cricket at Lord's for the first time in 1976.
Saturday Birth of the goalkeeper Ray Clemence in 1948. Manchester United became the first senior team in British football to win a competitive match by a penalty shoot-out in 1970 - against Hull City, in the Watney Cup semi-final. They won 4-3.
