Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Gunnell will run for her club, Essex Ladies, in the GRE Women's Jubilee Cup final. Rather than run her gold medal-winning distance, the 400 metres hurdles, Gunnell has opted for the 100 metres hurdles and the relays. Jenny Stoute, who won bronze with Britain's 4 x 400 metres relay squad, is also in action.
Khalid Skah, of Morocco, and Kenya's Richard Chelimo, who exchanged the 10,000 metres gold medal in Barcelona following the former's disqualification and subsequent reinstatement, meet again in Copenhagen on 25 August. The pair will race over 5,000 metres at a meeting currently featuring 37 Olympic medallists.
Eleven of Kenya's Olympic athletes, including five medallists, failed to arrive in Nairobi for a luncheon with President Daniel arap Moi yesterday. They did not board their connecting flight to Kenya at Heathrow and most are expected to appear at the Lucozade invitation meeting in Sheffield tomorrow.
