Athletics: Bronze for Britons
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.BRITAIN'S young hurdlers Diane Allahgreen and Noel Levy won bronze medals in the world junior championships here last night, but both were disappointed to miss out on the golds they had expected, writes Duncan Mackay from Lisbon.
Allahgreen, in the 100m hurdles, led for the first 70 metres but then started to lose momentum as Kirsten Bolm, of Germany, burst past to win in 13.26sec. Allahgreen's 13.31sec was her second best time ever, but the 19-year-old from Liverpool was beaten for the silver by one hundredth of a second by Latasha Colander, of the United States.
Levy's challenge in the 400m hurdles collapsed when he clipped the ninth barrier and Genadiy Gorbenko, of the Ukraine, powered away to win in 50.56sec. Levy then lost another place in the run- in to Miklos Roth, of Hungary. His time of 50.94 was nearly a quarter of a second outside his season's best.
Mark Hylton just missed out on a bronze in the 400m, finishing fourth despite a personal best time of 46.37sec.
