Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Colin Jackson, the world 110m hurdles record holder and world champion, will run for the first time this year in the McDonald's International against Russia at Birmingham's National Indoor Arena on 28 January. Tony Jarrett and John Regis have also been confirmed for the team, which will be chosen in full next week.
Grit Breuer, the former European 400m champion who is eligible to run again in August after a three-year drugs ban, plans to compete at next year's Atlanta Olympics. The 22-year-old German was banned for three years in August 1993, along with Katrin Krabbe and Manuela Derr, after admitting taking clenbuterol. Also, the former Olympic discus champion, Jurgen Schult, said yesterday that Breuer and her coach, Thomas Springstein, would switch from the Neubrandenburg club to Schult's club, Schwerin. "Breuer is getting only a small amount of money and Springstein is getting nothing," Schult said. "They have changed clubs because we are the only club who would accept Springstein as her coach."
