Jimmy Arias, the recently retired American player, has joined Jeff Tarango in accusing the French umpire, Bruno Rebeuh, of showing undue favour in matches and of being too friendly with certain players. Arias has made his accusations under oath and in a letter to the Association of Professionals and the International Federation.

Steffi Graf's father, Peter, yesterday lost an appeal for bail. Graf, who has managed his daughter's finances since she turned professional, is accused of tax evasion. He has been held on remand since 2 August.
