From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Elon Musk has shared a new family photo of Grimes and their son from his proposed new Texas city of Starbase.

The Tesla and SpaceX founder posted a picture of his family to Twitter from the state’s Gulf Coast, where his company is testing rockets for Mars.

In the photo, their son X Æ A-Xii, who turns one in May, can be seen putting his hands in some flowers as his parents watch on.

The location of the picture is a reference to Musk’s recent announcement that he wants to rename and incorporate Boca Chica Village, where the Starship spacecraft is being developed.

“Creating the city of Starbase, Texas,” the billionaire tweeted on 2 March.

And he followed up by tweeting: “From thence to Mars, And hence the Stars.”

“If SpaceX and Elon Musk would like to pursue down this path, they must abide by all state incorporation statutes,” Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino said in a statement in response to Musk’s tweets.

“Cameron County will process any appropriate petitions in conformity with applicable law.”

Musk, 49, announced last December that he was relocating full-time from California to Texas, where Tesla has a new manufacturing base and where SpaceX is developing Starship.

Grimes and Musk began dating in 2018 and welcomed their first child together on 4 May 2020.
