Wearing heels all day can be quite a painful task, which is why Williams had a nifty trick for bypassing any foot-related woes as the marital celebrations carried on into the night.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion revealed to her followers on social media that she’d chosen to wear flat shoes underneath her dress, something that she frequently does when wearing long skirts to smart functions.
“Little known fact: I often wear sneakers under my evening gown,” she wrote.
She explained that Pierpaolo Piccioli, creative director of Valentino, had given her the shoes to wear at the last minute.
“I told him be careful I tend to be comfy for long nights #beingserena,” she continued.
Many of Williams’ followers have expressed their admiration for her practical choice of footwear, with her tweet about it accumulating more than 22,000 likes.
“Smart. No sinking heels into the grass or regretting footwear choice later that night for you!” one person wrote.
“The only person that I can think of who can SLAY with sneaks on,” another commented.
Others wrote that Williams had inspired them to follow suit when attending elegant events.
However, the tennis star’s decision to wear flat shoes wasn’t the only aspect of her royal wedding attire to be widely praised.
A number of people complimented her pale pink Versace dress, with others commending her for wearing her hair in braids to the ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
Last week, actress Kristen Stewart took a stand against the supposed strict dress code at Cannes Film Festival be removing her heels while walking down the red carpet.
“If you’re not asking guys to wear heels and a dress you cannot ask me either,” she said in a 2017 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
