From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

To coincide with the release of the latest Batman film 'The Dark Knight Rises', online US property specialists movoto has had a stab at working out how much Wayne Manor - a secluded three-story Jacobean mansion - would cost to buy.
Using floor plans from a 1990s role-playing game (and using other famous people's home, such as Michael Jordan's as a guide), they put the value of 1007 Mountain Drive, Gotham, at around $32,100,000, excluding the Batcave and it's cave-front water access which they suggest would probably not be included in the sale.
Perhaps more controversially, they argue that for the sake of accurate location information, Gotham City is actually Chicago.
Features of the property listing include a "security system that would rival Fort Knox" and a stainless steel stove in the kitchen area as well as suites which would be ideal for young wards.
If the price is a little too steep, movoto has also worked out Barbie's dream house in Malibu would cost a little under $18,000.
