Your support makes all the difference.Worldwide personal computer sales rose more than 27 percent in the first quarter and Asian manufacturers posted gains in market share while US giants Hewlett-Packard and Dell lost ground, Gartner research firm said Wednesday.
Gartner said worldwide PC shipments grew by 27.4 percent in the first quarter to 84.3 million units compared to the same quarter a year ago.
"These first quarter results indicate that the professional PC market is gradually picking up, driven by PC replacements in mature markets," said Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner.
HP remained the worldwide PC sales leader but Asian rivals posted solid gains in market share during the quarter, according to Gartner.
HP shipments grew by 19.9 percent in the first quarter over a year ago but its market share slipped to 18.2 percent from 19.3 percent.
Taiwan's Acer saw spectacular 54.3-percent shipment growth and increased its market share to 14.2 percent from 11.7 percent.
Dell increased its shipments by 21.4 percent but its market share fell to 12.1 percent from 12.7 percent.
China's Lenovo saw its PC shipments grow by 59.2 percent and its market share increase to 8.3 percent from 6.6 percent.
Taiwan's ASUS posted the most spectacular shipment growth - 114.8 percent - and increased its market share to 5.5 percent from 3.3 percent.
Toshiba's shipments grow by 35.8 percent and its market share increased to 5.5 percent from 5.1 percent, Gartner said.
Gartner said PC shipments grew by 20.2 percent in the United States in the quarter and by 36.9 percent in the Asia-Pacific region.
