Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Glandore House: Sleaford, Nr Grantham (left)

Price: £550,000

Agent: Winkworth

Tel: 01529 303 377

They say: This imposing Grade II-listed residence has six bedrooms and offers a wealth of character and original period features including high ceilings, cast-iron radiators, and timber floors. It is presented in immaculate condition and is located close to the town centre.

We say: Well, there's not much to do here except move in and pour yourself a glass of wine. The interiors are lovely, and there are large lawned gardens outside. The house is about 12 miles from Grantham, which may or may not have pleasant associations depending on your political viewpoint. For those with young families, it's worth noting that there are some very good grammar schools nearby.

Moscow Road: Queensway, London W2 (2)

Price: £1.4m

Agent: John D Wood

Tel: 020-7908 1110

They say: A three-bedroom corner house with good natural light and excellent entertaining space. The accommodation is well planned, with two patio gardens plus off-street parking.

We say: Before you panic about the cost of a three bedroom house these days, bear in mind that the owners have done away with the fourth bedroom to create a fabulous, enormous master suite with a huge bathroom. You could always convert it back if necessary. The outdoor spaces are at the front, though, which might not appeal to everyone.

The Fire Station: Renfrew Road, London SE11 (3)

Price: £389,950

Agent: Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward

Tel: 020-7582 7773

They say: A split-level two-bedroom flat in a former fire station. There are two double bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a reception and a kitchen. Outside, there is a garden and there is also access to a communal roof terrace and the building's original tower, which provides a splendid 360-degree view of the city.

We say: It good to see a two-bedrrom flat with a separate kitchen - and one that's large enough to accommodate a table and chairs, at that. It means that cooking smells will be contained, and the huge sitting room can be dedicated to just that. This is a great flat for starters and, unlike many first flats, it has easily enough room for a young family.

Ann Street: New Town, Edinburgh (4)

Price: £925,000

Agent: Savills

Tel: 0131 247 3710

They say: An elegant renovated Georgian town house with a self-contained flat on one of Edinburgh's most sought-after streets. It has five bedrooms, three reception rooms, a family room with kitchen area and a pretty garden.

We say: This is enormous and the basement flat has another two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large reception room. Your teenagers and their granny can fight it out to decide who gets to live down there.

Chapel Corner: Greenham Road, Newbury, Berkshire (5)

Price: £255,000

Agent: Jones Robinson

Tel: 01635 35010

They say: Built in 1874, this former Methodist chapel has been sympathetically converted into a delightful two- bedroom property. The accommodation is mainly open plan, with bedrooms on a mezzanine level.

We say: Its open-plan sleeping space means it's probably not a family option, but the high ceilings and large windows give it a great sense of light and room. It's only a short walk from the town centre.

Meadowbrook House: Broughton, Hampshire (6)

Price: £1.75m

Agent: Jackson-Stops & Staff

Tel: 01962 844299

They say: An exceptional 16th-century house - with later additions - that is beautifully presented with great character set in glorious grounds leading down to its own lake, island and brook. There are six bedrooms, four bathrooms, a heated swimming pool and fishing rights for Wallop Brook.

We say: The kitchen isn't quite as fabulous as the rest of the house and could benefit with an update. There's a lot of space and character, but it is possible to have too many exposed beams, you know.
