Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

At America's largest architect and design event, the 7th Annual Open House Weekend in New York City October 10-11, the public can embark on individual tours of usually closed or unknown spaces in the city and submit their best pictures afterwards.

Out of the 350 seldom-seen spots around the city, visitors will have access to the Apollo Theater, the abandoned 1844 railway tunnel under Atlantic Avenue and the Thaw Conservation Center at the Morgan Library and Museum. Among design and architecture fans, places such as Richard Seifert's Centre Point, Berthold Lubetkin's Highpoint, and Erno Goldfinger's Trellick Tower have proven popular in the past.

In an effort to bring the public closer to New York's urban landscape, there will be design and architecture events, all free of charge, divided into six different schemes: opendialogues (presentations and discussions), sustainablenewyork (ethical building methods), architecturemoves (concerts and dance performances), OHNY tours (guided tours by historians), OHNY kids (children's activities) and OHNY's focus.

This year, that focus will be a photography contest, with visitors being able to submit pictures of their favorite sites of the event in the four categories interiors, exteriors, details, and people

The entire list of places will be available on October 1 on the event's website.
