Could the gothic or spiritual trend, seen in movies, books, and fashion, have finally spilled over to interior design? Judging from Nendo's Ghost Stories exhibit, it certainly seems that way.
For a special display at the New York Museum of Arts and Design, the Japanese creators behind Nendo Design have assembled some of their newest items, including lamps, vases, and chairs with trompe-l'oeil effects.
The Fade-Out Chair, for example, looks as if floating in space, and the Phantom-waves (pictured) create the illusion of being divided into segments, which results in flowers or other plants kept in those vases 'spookily' going through those segments.
Nendo founder Oki Sato has accumulated 45 international design awards over the course of his career.
Ghost Stories will be on show at the MADProjects Gallery, curated by design icon Karim Rashid, which focuses on emerging trends and innovation in design. It will run from October 27 through January 10.
