Milan's new all-city design event kicks off October 22
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. All across the Italian center of design, shops, museums and showrooms will stage three days of events, shopping, and competitions for the first-ever Milano Design in the City fair.
On the occasion, Milan's design landscape has been divided into eight different sectors to help navigate through the various stores and showrooms: outdoor and indoor furniture, with kitchens and bathrooms constituting another separate category, lighting, design objects, doors and stairs, surfaces and finally materials and fabrics.
According to initiator DesignPartners, Milano Design in the City aims at making the city the protagonist of the event, with different 'circuits' promoting all things related to product design. The event is open to everyone with objects being up for sale -- a long way off Milan's other big design fair, the trade-only Saloni in April.
As a special incentive, the organizers have thought up a contest that encourages participants to envision and submit their 'dream design object.' The best drafts will be given to Milan's design students and the resulting objects exhibited at next year's event.
The fair runs through October 25, with shops and showrooms open from 10am to 9pm each day. For a full listing of events and locations, visit milano-designinthecity.com/download/calendario-eventi.pdf.
