Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. This bold statement was made by renowned designer, Yves Behar, the curator of Yerba Buena Center for the Arts' first-ever design exhibit.
Called TechnoCRAFT, the display, which opens July 10 at the San Francisco art center - also known as the space Apple often uses for its product launch events -will focus on objects that invite the consumer to interact with them, such as Droog's 'intentionally collaborative' Do Hit chair, which can be beaten into the desired shape (watch a demonstration here).
"The exhibition traces the current trend in design away from fixed objects toward open "design platforms" that invite people to participate in the creative process," a press release explains.
The exhibition, whose second title is Hackers, Modders, Fabbers, Tweakers and Design in the Age of Individuality, also includes 'finished' objects that were transformed even though they weren't meant to by the designer (by so-called hackers).
On the occasion, the YBCA hosts a number of DIY-themed events during the launch weekend. For more information, visit http://www.ybca.org.
