From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

George Harrison’s former childhood home - where The Beatles held some of the bands first rehearsals - has been auctioned for £156,000 at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

The 25 Upton Green property in Speke, Liverpool had a guide price of £100,000 and was on the market with Entwistle Green. It was bought by a Beatles fan from London.

"There was interest in the property before the auction from potential buyers who lived in the UK and internationally. We are delighted to have sold such an iconic piece of history," said Andrew Brown, Managing Director, Countrywide Property Auctions.

George Harrison was aged six when in 1949 his parents Harold and Louise moved into this three-bedroom council house. The mid terrace home was where George lived with his parents until the early 1960s.

Last year the first home of John Lennon on Newcastle Road, Wavertree, was sold for £480,000.
