Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Evans Estate owns 750 acres of land and buildings at Bantham near Kingsbridge but has not yet confirmed the asking price, though speculation has put this around the £10 million mark. Strutt & Parker will be handling the sale of the 25 houses and shop. It is believed that the village pub is not part of the sale.
The estate has been in the possession of the same family for several generations and many of the residents' tenancies have passed down through their families who received letters last week confirming that the village and its surrounding land will be put up for sale.
A website devoted to Bantham says its ethos has been to keep Bantham as an area of outstanding beauty with thatched cottages and a naturally wild beach. It says: "Evans Estates has consistently set its face against commercialisation of the beach. Although opposed to undue commercialism, the company wishes the Bantham community to remain both viable and vibrant in the long term. Whenever practicable, therefore, vacant accommodation is offered to young people and their families and work on the estate is assigned to local businesses and tradesmen."
Bantham beach is one of the most popular surfing sites in Devon. Among those who are regular visitors to the area is businessman Richard Branson.
