From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Another day, another completely weird story about the president of the United States.

We all know that president Trump has declared a national emergency. But a couple of days later, he was photographed getting breakfast in Palm Beach, Florida.

Despite the imagined “crisis”, Trump was spotted getting himself an omelette in characteristically ill-fitting golfing gear. Because nothing solves a “national emergency” like eggs, right?

As with everything to do with Trump, the internet has some thoughts regarding his breakfast choices.

Given his notoriously weird food and drink orders, plus his love for "executive" (leisure) time, Twitter had a field day with the photo, pouring over every pixel.

Others took aim at the president's fashion choices which, we're sure we can all agree, is a crisis of its own.

George Conway, Kellyanne's husband, had to get in his obligatory Trump dig.
