US doctors face drugs ban

Doctors in California and Arizona who prescribe illegal drugs could face criminal charges under a plan approved by President Clinton to counter state laws legalising marijuana.

Voters in those two states approved measures in November that relax restrictions on the medical use of some illegal drugs, such as marijuana.

"These two propositions simply do not affect federal law," Barry McCaffrey, the President's drug-policy chief, said. AP - Washington
