The shooting occurred at a block party held on a basketball court on Detroit's west side.
Police have not released the identity of the person killed.
The Detroit Free Press reported that a 46-year-old man was also in critical condition following the attack, which occurred on Saturday evening.
Police believe that two semi-automatic weapons were used in the attack, according to a report on Sky News.
An eleventh person was shot in a separate incident at a petrol station within hours of the attack.
