8 1961: first Eta action - attempt to derail a train which was taking Francoist veterans to a rally in San Sebastian. Police arrested and tortured more than 100 Eta suspects.
8 20 Dec 1973: assassination of Luis Carrero Blanco, prime minister and Franco's designated successor, preceding collapse of dictatorship.
8 October 1979: Jose Maria Uriarte Alvain, mayor of Bilbao, killed.
8 1980: Eta's bloodiest year - 118 people killed.
8 30 September 1980: Jose Ignacio Ustar, of the conservative UCD executive committee, killed in Vitoria.
8 23 February 1984: Socialist senator, Enrique Casas Vila, shot dead in San Sebastian.
8 12 June 1985: army colonel and his chauffeur killed in Madrid on day Spain signs EC membership deal.
8 25 April 1986: five Civil Guardsmen, guarding embassies in Madrid, killed by car-bomb.
8 14 July 1986: 12 Civil Guardsmen killed and 56 people injured in truck explosion in Madrid.
8 19 June 1987: bombing of supermarket in Barcelona kills 21 and wounds 35.
8 6 February 1992: car-bomb in Santander kills three.
8 15 January 1992: Manuel Broseta Pons, former UCD senator and minister, killed in Valencia.
8 21 June 1993: six soldiers and a civilian killed in car-bomb attack in Madrid.
8 29 July 1994: three people, including a general, killed in the centre of the capital.
8 23 January 1995: Gregorio Ordonez, provincial leader of Popular Party in Basque Country, shot dead in San Sebastian.
