MADRID (Reuter) - Spain yesterday deported 195 North Africans found 'packed like pencils in a box' in a 15-metre (50ft) motor-boat as they tried to enter the country illegally.

Customs officials in the southern port of Almeria said the would-be immigrants, nearly all Moroccans and including two women, were put aboard a ferry from the port to the Spanish enclave of Melilla on the Moroccan coast. The officials said the North Africans, detained on Tuesday, were one of the biggest groups of illegal immigrants found on one craft. Spain has up to 300,000 illegal immigrants. Fifty per cent are Moroccans.
