According to the United Nations, the Bosnian Serb leadership in Pale said it could not guarantee the safety of any plane carrying Mr Demirel to the besieged city.
'I received a letter yesterday from the United Nations saying my visit to Sarajevo should be postponed because they could not fly me from Zagreb to Sarajevo,' said the President, who spent the day visiting Turkish UN troops in Zenica in central Bosnia. The Bosnian President, Alija Izetbegovic, protested to the UN last night over what he said was Unprofor's prevention of a visit announced days ago.
