We accept that it misrepresented Mr Grinberg's conduct, wrongly implying he had been involved in sexual exploitation of Congolese women in a bar in Kinshasa.
The spokesman for the UN secretary general announced in a press briefing on 17 March 2005 that allegations of misconduct against Mr Grinberg were not substantiated. An investigation had been completed and no grounds for initiating disciplinary procedures were found; the case was closed on 14 January 2005.
Mr Grinberg is known to be at the forefront of efforts to combat sexual abuse by UN peacekeepers in the Congo and is a highly respected and experienced UN peacemaker.
