A Cuban windsurfer, Eugenio Maderal Roman, 21, caught a favourable breeze and sailed his board to Florida where he asked for asylum, sheriff's deputies said yesterday, Reuter reports from Marathon, Florida. He made the 110-mile (180 km) trip from Cuba's Varadero Beach resort to Marathon in the upper Florida Keys in about nine hours.
