Gottfried Kussel, the Austrian far-right leader regarded as the German-speaking world's leading neo-Nazi, went on trial yesterday accused of attempting to undermine the Austrian state, Reuter reports from Vienna.

Mr Kussel, 35, who has described Hitler as 'one of the greatest Germans of all time' and denied the extermination of Jews by the Nazis, took the stand at Vienna state court. He denied charges of fascist revivalism by planning to relaunch the Nazi Party.
