UN criticises 'unfair' Bahrain court

The UN human rights office questioned the fairness of a Bahrain court that sentenced an anti-government protester to death and gave lengthy jail terms to medical staff who treated the injured during the country's uprising.

Some of those jailed for up to 15 years were reportedly tried in just just 10 minutes. "For such harsh sentences to be handed down to civilians in a military court with serious due process irregularities raises severe concerns," said Rupert Colville, a UN spokesman.
