A shell landed in a cotton field near the Turkish town of Altinozu while people were working in the field, the state-run Anadolu agency said, but no one was injured.
Turkey's President, Abdullah Gul, said his government was in "constant consultation" with the military while the "worst-case scenarios" were taking place in Syria. Urging the international community to act, he said Turkey would continue to do everything necessary to protect its borders.
