Hundreds are feared dead following conficting reports of an Isis 'massacre' in Deir ez-Zor, Syria, which has claimed scores of lives, with state media suggesting the death toll neared 300.

The Isis attack on Saturday saw at least 85 civilians and 50 regime forces killed, AFP reported, but state news agency Sana claimed 'around 300 civilians', mostly women, children and the elderly, were killed in the eastern Syrian city.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that a source close to the Syrian government had claimed Isis fighters had killed at least 250 people, including pro-government fighters and their families.

It is believed the attacks on the city included at least one suicide bombing, while reports also came in of victims being executed.
