The mother of a woman murdered in Qatar has said she was forced to watch a video-re-enactment of the crime during an appeal hearing for the killer.

Alison Patterson began to cry when the video, which was filmed five days after her daughter Lauren’s death, was played by the defence, Doha News reported.

In the film a female police officer depicts 24-year-old Lauren, whose smouldering remains were found in a remote desert location outside of Doha in October 2013. She had been sexually assaulted and stabbed.

In March, Badr Hashim Khamis Abdullah al-Jabar was sentenced to death for the teacher’s murder, while Muhammad Abdullah Hassan Abdul Aziz was jailed for three years for helping Al-Jabar to burn Lauren’s body and hide other evidence.

The two men had been seen leaving the La Cigale nightclub with Lauren on the night she was murdered.

Mrs Patterson said the video was misleading and factually inaccurate.

In a statement to the newspaper she added: “Their lawyers apparently resigned and the new lawyer stood up and said to the court that his morals only allowed him to defend these two criminals because he was believed it was legitimate self-defence.

“But his morals also allowed to let the mother of the victim stand in front of court four feet behind the two accused and watch an enactment of her daughter’s murder.

“Where had his morals gone at this stage?”

Al-Jabar maintains that he had consensual sex with Lauren and that she was accidentally stabbed after she attacked him.

The next appeal hearing is scheduled for 14 December.
