'Mea culpa'

Austria's Chancellor Franz Vranitzky begged the forgiveness of victims of the Holocaust for Austrians' role in supporting the Nazis, Reuter reports from Jerusalem.

Mr Vranitzky, the first Austrian head of government to visit Israel, said Austrians shared collective responsibility for Nazi atrocities committed against Jews. 'We do acknowledge collective responsibility,' he said.
