The governor of the Malaysian north Borneo state of Sabah said he would swear in a new head of government today, ending an apparent stand-off after an opposition tribal party narrowly won state elections, Reuter reports from Kota Kinabalu. The statement did not say who would take the oath of office. Joseph Pairin Kitingan, head of the Sabah Unity Party, which beat Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's national coalition in elections over the weekend, was still sitting in his car outside the locked gates of the governor's mansion last night 18 hours after he arrived to be sworn in as chief minister.
