Your support makes all the difference.Algiers (Reuter) - The assassin of Algeria's head of state, Mohamed Boudiaf, escaped from the hall after defying massive security to gun down the leader but was captured later, a leading prosecutor said yesterday. Prosecutor-general Mohamed Tighrami of the eastern town of Annaba, where Boudiaf was shot dead on Monday, identified the killer as Lembarek Boumaraf, a 26-year-old sub-lieutenant in Boudiaf's special security unit. The official news agency said immediately after the killing that the gunman was killed on the spot. Algeria's collective presidency said later he had been arrested.
